Test your snorkeling skills right off our own Dawn Beach. We provide free beachside snorkeling equipment. Dawn Beach is one of the best spots on the island to snorkel within wading distance of the beach. Discover Nature’s Wonders
There are so many different ways to explore the hills and valleys of the island and you will want to explore them all. Discover all 37 square miles at your own pace and your transportation of choice. Take in our picturesque beaches and lush hills on horseback at Seaside Nature Parkor tour the island on Jeep and ATV tours where you can reach every corner of the island. For cycling enthusiasts, there are bike-guided tours available that will give you a unique perspective of the landscape.
Trek Through the Trails
For those willing to go off the beaten path, St. Maarten has many coastal and hiking trails offering unforgettable sights throughout her emerald hills. Though some of the trails can be harder to find, all listed trails are cleared and accessible and offer the most amazing views of the island that is more than a reward for its effort. Be sure to visit our natural wonders while you’re here. Hiking to the natural pool between Point Blanche and Guana Bay is a local favorite. It is a moderate 2.6 km hike that leads to a pristine natural pool great for photoshoots, picnics, or a private swim. South Reward Trail is another popular but challenging hike that ends with panoramic views of the island, leading to the highest peak on the Dutch Side.
Zip Down from the Peaks
Tours can lead up to Pic Paradis, the island’s highest peak, which is also home to the treetop lounge, Loterie Farm. Looking for more adventure, Loterie Farm offers zipline packages and access to trails to the peak of Pic Paradis. For the best panoramic views of the island, head up to Rainforest Adventure. Not only can you go on a 360 tour of the island from the top of Sentry Hill via the Soualiga Sky Explorer chairlift, but you can zoom down to the bottom with the Flying Dutchman zipline, the steepest zipline in the world. From the top, you can see neighboring islands Saba, St. Barths, St. Eustatius, and Anguilla. Before you leave the park be sure to check out Emilio Wilson Museum to learn more about the island’s colonial history.
Play A Match or Two
While St. Maarten is known to be a haven for relaxation, visitors who are looking for a more active vacation will be thrilled to know there are plenty of opportunities to break a sweat. St. Maarten offers access to various gym facilities and sports parks. Play tennis at the Port de Plaisance Country Club, tee up at the Tower’s golf course in Mullet Bay or run around the track at Raoul Illidge Sports Center. Nothing says beach time like a good game of volleyball! Nets are available at Little Bay Beach, Mullet Bay Beach, and Simpson Bay Beach, so be sure to keep an eye out. Visitors can also play a game at Orient Bay Beach.

Hillside & Coastal Parks
Scattered throughout the island are many recreational and coastal parks perfect for hosting venues, picnics, photoshoots, hikes, and more. Emilio Wilson Park offers an escape into Sint Maarten’s hillside and is a historical landmark on Dutch Sint Maarten. At the peak of Sentry Hill is Rainforest Adventures, which offers panoramic views of the island and thrilling fun for adventure-seekers. Over the hill, you can find Seaside Nature Park which offers ocean views and family-friendly activities including horseback riding tours of the island’s wild side If you are dreaming of a place to go, to be with nature, to enjoy the fresh air, and to witness stunning views, SXM Hillside Plantation is the destination for you. Its various trails will delight avid hikers and beginners alike. Afterward, be sure to try a delicious fresh-made juice from the juice bar.Want to meet some chirping locals? Parrotte Ville is a walk-in bird sanctuary on the island and home to many exotic birds including sun conures, ring-neck parakeets, black-headed caiques and so many more. The park also has a Heritage museum where visitors can see various antique items and a medicinal garden.
Natural Reserves & Beaches
Explore the various coastal landscapes accessed through our 37 beaches. Each beach offers different views of the Caribbean, snorkeling access to nearby coral reefs, and incredible sunsets. Surrounding the island are isolated natural reserves only accessible by boat. Pinel and Tintamarre are two such islands that are a part of the French Natural Reserve. Pinel offers great dining options, kayaking, and paddleboarding with views of St. Maarten, while Tintamarre offers undisturbed natural landscapes great for divers, adventure-seekers, and explorers. For snorkeling opportunities, visitors can explore the reefs of Creole Rock or Green Cay. Administered by the French side of the island, Creole Rock and Green Cay are part of the national nature reserve of Saint-Martin, as a protected area, it is forbidden to fish in these areas, allowing the fauna and flora to develop freely. Creole Rock is also a snorkeling favorite because of its shallow water, making for a perfect diving spot for both beginning and advanced divers.
Natural Wonders
Experience the natural beauty of the island and explore its nature-made wonders. Unique geological features created from years of evolution make St. Maarten a spectacle to behold. A hike to the natural pool is a must for nature lovers and adventure seekers. On one side, visitors can catch a glimpse of St. Barth across the rough ocean. On the other side you get beautiful hills covered with tall grass and the most stunning of rocky views. David’s Hole is an 80-foot-diameter sinkhole between Baie Rouge and Pointe du Bluffe. Its highest peak is around 33 feet and can be accessed from the rectangular stone at the lowest point. Visitors can also swim around to the two holes to access it from the inside.
